As a dog owner, I have searched far and wide for the best dog parks in Cochrane Alberta. For my sweet Yellow Lab Luna, only the best off-leash retrieving and swimming will do!
Of course, Cochrane isn’t a massive city. We really only have so many major off-leash dog parks to choose from. But – there is a secret, private off-leash dog park option I’d also like to share in this post!
As always, if you’re curious about life in Cochrane or moving to this charming Alberta town – feel free to reach out. I’m always available to connect via text, call or email to answer any questions you have!

Located along the meandering Bow River, Jim Uffelmann Memorial Park is essentially a section of Cochrane’s Riverfront Park – but it has so much to offer. Spread over 10 acres, the off-leash section of the park extends from the Spray Lakes Sawmills Centre to the old River Avenue Bridge.
This wonderful park is great for getting a walk or run in for yourself, while allowing your dog (and kids!) to socialize. The path overlooks the river and features plenty of grass to play as well. Multiple access points to the river are perfect for pups who love to swim. Look for regulars down here every day!
In this park, the multi-use pathway is shared with walkers, runners, cyclists, kids and other folks without furry friends. So please be sure to share the space and keep your dog under control!

Though not quite as scenic as the Riverfront park, this dog park still has a lot to offer. Many trails and roadways connect to this highly accessible park. Plus – its nearby local hotels and commercial areas for owners looking to get their animals some exercise on the go. Plenty of green space for a game of fetch and a lovely path for owners to stroll are key features here. A smaller off-leash area adjacent to this park is set aside for puppies and small dogs only, so they can have their room to roam too.

And now for the secret options!
Many locals may not even be aware, but the Cochrane & Area Humane Society (CAHS) has two of their very own private off-leash dog parks. Just north of town, their large park is called Sadie’s Nature Park – featuring over 8 acres for dogs to explore and really let loose during 60 minute dedicated bookings. Their smaller park, Paws In The Park, is 1 acre and allows for a quieter private setting for dogs and owners. This park is available for 30 and 60 minute bookings.
Note, both of these parks require a fee for bookings. Check their website here to make a booking!
Whether you’ve just brought home a new furry family member, are looking to reconnect with your dogs wild side, or need to stretch your dogs legs on the way through town – Cochrane has great options! Just like the people of Cochrane, their dogs love this community too.
